Outback Vic range

The Lake Tyrrell we see nowadays is one of the few remaining fragments of an ancient mega lake known as Lake Bungunnia, which was formed approximately three million years ago after a geological change in South Australia dammed the Murray River.

The mega lake disappeared after the Murray River carved a new course to the sea and south eastern Australia’s environment turned drier.

The water in Lake Bungunnia is believed to have been somewhat salty. and that same salt is what we extract from the waters of Lake Tyrrell today.

Lake Tyrrell Salt Co. has now extended our Gourmet Outback Vic Range with native herbs from local farms and winery and also new packaging including local Indigenous artwork designed by Jackie and Robbie wirramanda from Lake Tyrrell Arts. Our salt product are packed by Axis disability services.

Victorian Aboriginal people are acknowledged as Australia’s first nations peoples and the custodians of the land and waterways upon which we depend. We acknowledge Victoria’s Aboriginal communities and culture and pay respect to their elders past and present.”
